Swimmer’s Spotlight: Meet Kirsty

This month’s Swimmer Spotlight is on one of our members who has just achieved the incredible milestone of completing her first Robben Island Swim.

Meet Kirsty, a woman who knows what she wants and goes after it with all she has!

Full name: Kirsty Green

Date of Birth: 16 August 1988

Birthplace: Cape Town

Profession: Technically I’m a qualified high-school maths teacher…

Started open water swimming: August 2025

Swim attire preference: I don’t even own a wetsuit…

My most memorable swim:

The first was the most recent Glencairn to Long Beach, Simons Town Adventure swim – It gave me so much confidence and it was when I conquered my fear of being out in the ocean.

The second would have to be my recent Robben Island crossing – It without a doubt exceeded all my expectations for so many reasons.

What I like most about the swim group:

This swim group has become more than just a swim group to me. It is the most supportive group I’ve been a part of especially in sport, free from judgement and just full of wholeheartedness. Everyone roots for everyone to achieve their goals- big or small- and there’s a sense of camaraderie that is unmatched.

Swim motto:

I don’t think I really have one, but I do remember thinking to myself many times over during my recent swim that “you haven’t come this far to just come this far. The only way out is on that beach.”
