Full name: Amy Sinovich
DOB: 1st of November 1984
City and country of birth: I was born in Pretoria, South Africa, but I’ve been living in Cape Town now for a very long time.
Profession/purpose: I make jewelry for a living, all custom one-off pieces.
When I started open water swimming: I started open water swimming around the end of 2022. So about three and a half years ago.
Swim attire preference: These days it’s wetsuit.
Sunrise or sunset swim? Sunrise.
False Bay or Atlantic? False Bay this time of year, Atlantic in the summer.
Favorite post-swim snack: First, it’s always a coffee. And a good biscuit goes well with a coffee after a swim.

My most memorable swim:
Oh, it’s very difficult to pick a most memorable swim. We’ve had so many incredible swims. I think for me, I love exploring new routes. I always love our adventure style swims, and this year we’ve done some beautiful ones along False Bay. It’s always nice to have a swim when the group is swimming together and exploring the coastline. And often you encounter a few little creatures, whether they’re shy sharks, fish or octopus. So those for me are always the memorable ones. Everyone is just exploring together and just having an amazing time, enjoying being in the water and seeing what there is to see.
What I like most about the swim group:
I really love the diversity of everyone in the group. Everyone is very supportive. It’s really great to be with a group of people who all appreciate being in nature and appreciate the ocean. Every swim is different, so you never know what you are going to get, and everyone is just open to enjoying the experience. People might arrive and be like, oh my gosh, why are we doing this? It’s cold. I don’t feel like getting in. But no matter what happens, everyone always gets out with a huge smile on their face. It’s a really great bonding experience and every swim brings everyone together, so it’s just a really amazing community.
My swim motto:
I think when it comes to swimming, you have those days where you don’t really want to go in or you’re not sure. And I think you’ve just got to give it two minutes. Just get in and give it two minutes. And once you’ve done two minutes, it’s just easy to keep going. And obviously if you’re not having a great time, you can get out. But you never end up getting out early. You just do what you can, and always give yourself a few moments to be open to giving it a chance. So yeah, just two minutes at a time.
Thank you for being a valuable part of the team, Amy!
If you’d like to join her and others in our ocean adventures, we’d love to welcome you to the team.
